Introduction to Atom

validator.w3.org

The Atom Syndication Format is an XML-based Web content and metadata syndication format, and an application-level protocol for publishing and editing Web resources. All Atom feeds must be well-formed XML documents, identified with the application/atom+xml media type. The format is produced by the IETF AtomPub Working Group and is used for publishing and editing Web resources. The Atom feed consists of metadata, followed by any number of entries. Required feed elements include id, title, and updated, which identify the feed, provide a human-readable title, and indicate the last time the feed was modified, respectively. Recommended feed elements include author, which names one author of the feed, and link, which provides a link to the feed.
